The Green Classroom
An educational tourism experience for students or teachers in an ecologically friendly environment in Costa Rica
Students (Ages 12-16): The Green Classroom is a program for students to learn about themselves, about leadership skills, and how to work cooperatively with their peers through hands-on experiences in Costa Rica’s rich natural surroundings and through local community service.
Objectives:
- Gain awareness of the importance of the environment and learn how it can be preserved
- Identify and develop leadership skills in each participant
- Develop life skills and respect for others through group activities
- Participate in a community service project in the local school.
Teachers: The Green Classroom is an opportunity for teachers to receive professional development and to combine it with team building activities, exciting adventures, and a relaxing time with their peers. Teachers can choose the topic for professional development and the destination of their choice.
Destinations:
Jungle Adventure in Sarapiquí
Participants will enjoy horseback riding, hiking, river rafting, canopy (zip line) and other outdoor activities in the Sarapiquí area. The lodging is at Hacienda Pozo Azul, a 2000 acre working ranch, by the Sarapiquí River, amidst lush vegetation. Accommodations consist of tent like suites surrounded by exuberant trees and the sound of many animals.
Volcano Adventure in Arenal
Participants will enjoy horseback riding, hiking, lava tours, hot springs, a guided tour of the Arenal National Park, and a spectacular view of the famed volcano. The Arenal volcano has been on of Costa Rica’s most active volcanoes, located in the fertile northern lowlands. Arenal’s perfectly symmetrical shape makes it a sightseer’s dream.
Rainforest Adventure in Monteverde
Participants will enjoy canopy tours, hiking, bird watching and other outdoor activities in the Monteverde area. The Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve is a beautiful area with a great amount of biodiversity. Since 1972 this area of 10,500 hectares became a protected rainforest, supported by several nature conservancy organizations.
